What the data shows
AI use in EU businesses rose from 7.65% in 2021 to 19.95% in 2025. Most of that growth came in the last two years: the share was still 8.06% in 2023.
Company size matters more than country. In 2025, 55.03% of large EU enterprises used AI, against 30.36% of medium-sized and 17.00% of small ones.
The biggest one-year jump inside the EU was in Denmark, from 27.58% to 42.03%. The gap between north and south-east remains wide: Denmark, Finland and Sweden are all above 35%, while Romania, Poland, Bulgaria and Greece are below 9%.

b = break in the time series that year. A dash means no value was published. The survey did not include AI questions in 2022.
Source and method
- Source: Eurostat, dataset isoc_eb_ai, indicator E_AI_TANY (enterprises using at least one AI technology), last updated by Eurostat on 15 June 2026.
- Coverage: enterprises with 10 or more employees, all activities except agriculture, mining and the financial sector.
- We retrieved the values on 4 October 2026 and compared them with Eurostat’s own Statistics Explained article.
Limits of this data
- The list of technologies that count as AI changed between survey waves, so years are not strictly comparable.
- Eurostat flags a break in series for France and Sweden in 2023 and the Netherlands in 2025.
- The dataset has no values for the United Kingdom, Switzerland or Iceland, and none for North Macedonia.
- “Using AI” means at least one technology in use. It says nothing about how deeply.
